Number Of LSEs & SLEs Doubled From 2012 To Over 3,400 Says PL Office

3,422 LSEs and SLEs are now part of Malta’s education system, compared with 1,695 in 2012, meaning their number has more than doubled since then, the Labour Party Communications Office said.

In a statement, the Labour Party wished all educators a successful new scholastic year, while saying it was choosing positivity and constructive action over what it described as negativity from those who, when in government, repeatedly reduced investment in educators.

The Labour Party Communications Office said the Nationalist Party’s recent statement on Learning Support Educators (LSEs) did not reflect the facts. It rejected claims that the Government was unable to find the necessary funds to employ LSEs.

The statement said the recruitment call for LSEs remains open throughout the year, allowing the Government to continue strengthening this resource within the education sector.

The Labour Party said dozens of new LSEs will join the Government workforce during this scholastic year, with all candidates who successfully completed the recruitment process having been offered employment. It added that educators today benefit from improved conditions.

According to the statement, the current number of LSEs and School Learning Support Educators (SLEs) represents the highest figure ever recorded and reflects what the Labour Party described as continued investment in Malta’s education sector.
