Nominations Open For The 10th Edition Of The Gozo Sports Awards

Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, announced that the Directorate for Services in Gozo within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning will be organising the 10th edition of the Gozo Sports Awards. Once again, Gozitan athletes will be recognised and celebrated for their progress and achievements across various sporting disciplines.

Minister Camilleri stated, “These awards serve as a way for us, as an island, to acknowledge the efforts and successes of our athletes. I encourage everyone to submit their nominations, which will then be evaluated and shortlisted by a dedicated board. This is a very important event, as it continues to promote sport on the island of Gozo.”

He also emphasised that the Government has always worked to support athletes and to recognise all they manage to achieve, both locally and abroad.

Sports associations and clubs are invited to submit their nominations in one or more of the following categories, based on performances and achievements during 2024, whether in Gozo, Malta, or overseas. Individual nominations will only be accepted when there is no existing club or association for the respective sport. Where an association or club exists, nominations cannot be submitted by individuals.

Award Categories: Official of the Year: A person serving in the administration of an Association, Club, or sporting event, Coach of the Year: A qualified coach engaged by an Association, Club, or regional selection, Team of the Year: A team representing Gozo or a local club, Recognition for an Active Athlete over 45 years of age (selected by the Directorate for Services within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning), Lifetime Sports Achievement Award (selected by the Directorate for Services within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning), Special Recognition for Special Olympics (selected by the Directorate for Services within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning), Promising Young Female Athlete: Under 21 years old, representing Gozo or a local club, Promising Young Male Athlete: Under 21 years old, representing Gozo or a local club, Female Athlete of the Year: A female athlete not nominated in the Promising Young Athlete category, representing Gozo or a local club, Male Athlete of the Year: A male athlete not nominated in the Promising Young Athlete category, representing Gozo or a local club.

Applications for the Gozo Sports Awards open on Monday, 25th August 2025 and may be submitted online via mygozo.gov.mt or gozo.gov.mt. The deadline for submission is Friday, 12th September 2025 at noon.

The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony, which will be held on Thursday, 9th October 2025.
