Nominations Open For 2026 Animal Honours Awards

Nominations are now open for the 6th edition of Malta’s Animal Honours Awards, which will take place on the 2nd of October 2026.

Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said said the awards aim to recognise people, organisations, sanctuaries, businesses and animals that have made a positive difference to animal welfare.

This year, nominations can be submitted across five categories: the People’s Choice Award for Contribution to the Animal Welfare Sector, Sanctuary Excellence Award, Volunteer of the Year, Pet-Friendly Business Award and Second Chance Companion Award.

Following the nomination period, a jury will assess submissions and select a shortlist for each category, with the finalists then put to a public vote.

Animal Welfare Commissioner Elliot Magro and Animal Welfare Department Director Dennis Sciberras encouraged the public to nominate those who have demonstrated dedication and commitment to animal welfare.

Nominations are open until 17 September 2026 via the Commissioner for Animal Welfare’s website.
