No Injuries Reported After Ground Collapse In Tarxien: Authorities Investigating

The Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) have confirmed that no one was injured after part of the ground collapsed during ongoing works in Tarxien Square.
In a joint statement, the authorities said they are on site together with other entities and immediately began technical assessments and investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any potential risks.
They stressed that the safety of workers, nearby residents and the general public remains their highest priority. The authorities said all necessary precautions are being taken and that any mitigation measures recommended by technical experts will be implemented to ensure risks are effectively managed.
As part of the ongoing works, experts are assessing the existing conditions at the site, including the underground structure, to determine the technical and operational measures required to ensure the stability of the surrounding area. Safety measures will continue to be reviewed and updated in line with the findings of these assessments and expert advice.
Infrastructure Malta also confirmed it is working closely with the OHSA, the BCA and the other competent authorities following the incident, which it described as having fortunately caused no injuries.
The agency said it is providing the necessary support and cooperation to the authorities and technical experts involved so that the required assessments can be carried out and the appropriate measures identified to safeguard the stability of the site.
Infrastructure Malta added that it will implement all actions falling within its responsibility as quickly as possible, while following the technical evaluations and instructions issued by the relevant authorities and specialists.
It reiterated that the safety of workers, residents and the public remains its top priority and said any further intervention at the site will only proceed with caution and on the basis of the required technical assessments. The authorities said they will continue monitoring the situation closely before taking any further steps.
