New Standards Proposed To Strengthen Elderly Care Services

A new set of regulatory standards aimed at strengthening services for older persons was launched today for public consultation, marking an important step toward improving the quality and consistency of care across the sector.
The framework focuses on ensuring dignity, respect, and person-centred support for elderly individuals in residential and community-based settings.
Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said the standards reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to placing older persons at the centre of service delivery. He explained that the initiative responds to evolving societal needs while strengthening accountability and raising the bar across all care services.
He added that the reform is designed not only to regulate but to build a more responsive, sustainable and compassionate care system, ensuring that older persons can live longer lives with the support, dignity and quality of care they deserve.
