New investment at Safi Aviation Park has secured local jobs and attracted a major global aviation operator to Malta, following the announcement of a new foreign direct investment by International Aerospace Coatings.

Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri confirmed that the company will establish a world class aircraft design and painting facility at Safi Aviation Park.

The agreement includes a long term lease and ensures continuity for workers previously employed by Malta Aviation Cosmetics.

All 58 employees will be retained and transferred to the new operator, with their outstanding salaries already settled in full.

The transition guarantees job security and stability for the workforce, while also laying the foundation for future expansion.

The Minister emphasised that the initiative aligns with Malta Vision 2050, focusing on sustainable growth, resilience and quality investment.

Schembri stated that the Government prioritised safeguarding employees while addressing challenges linked to the previous operator.

He noted that the arrival of a globally recognised company demonstrates strong confidence in Malta’s economic environment and long term prospects.

The investment is also expected to expand the workforce to around 90 employees over the coming years.

General Workers’ Union Secretary Josef Bugeja welcomed the outcome, highlighting the successful settlement of wages and the creation of stable career opportunities for workers.

International Aerospace Coatings Group CEO Martin O’Connell described Malta as a strategic hub for expansion, noting that the new operation will support customers across the aviation sector while providing continuous employment in a growing international network.
