The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) has launched its AI Tourism Platform, a new digital resource providing free access to data-driven insights on Malta’s tourism sector.

The platform was introduced on World Tourism Day 2026, whose theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism”, reflects the technology behind the initiative.

The platform brings together two major sources of tourism information in one centralised system: the MTA Traveller Survey and official tourism statistics from the National Statistics Office (NSO).

The Traveller Survey provides insights into visitor behaviour, including travel patterns, motivations and satisfaction levels, while NSO data covers key indicators such as tourist arrivals, nights stayed and expenditure.

Through an AI-powered interface, the platform allows tourism operators, policymakers, researchers, journalists and members of the public to access updated information without having to consult multiple databases or reports. The MTA said the tool is designed to support evidence-based decisions and help stakeholders better align their actions with Malta’s tourism objectives.

Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela said artificial intelligence and digital innovation are creating new opportunities to use data, make decisions and plan for the future. He said the platform will help strengthen Malta’s tourism sector while keeping focus on visitor experience and long-term sustainability.

MTA Chief Executive Officer said the platform represents a move towards a more informed and agile tourism industry, where better access to information can lead to stronger decisions and improved experiences.

The AI Tourism Platform was developed by the MTA in collaboration with the NSO, with funding from the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), as part of efforts to use emerging technologies to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of Malta’s tourism sector.
