A new accessible and therapeutic park, Ġnien Zaylen, has been inaugurated in Paola by the Ministry for the Environment through Project Green, in collaboration with Aġenzija Sapport.

The 5,000 square metre garden, created in memory of a young Zaylen who passed away earlier this year, offers an inclusive and calming space that promotes social interaction, sensory exploration, and connection with nature.

Miriam Dalli, Minister for Environment, said the project “encompasses what our work is all about: creating spaces that nurture people,” adding that it enhances “dignity and inclusion” while “commemorating Zaylen with a living space.”

Julia Farrugia, Minister for Inclusion, described the garden as “a space of peace, care, and love, where everyone can feel welcome,” noting its role in supporting Malta’s National Autism Strategy 2021–2030.

Zaylen’s mother, Francesca Borg, delivered a heartfelt message where she thanked those involved.

Ġnien Zaylen features sensory pathways, accessible play areas, and sustainable landscaping, and is open to the public on weekdays from 12:30–18:00 and weekends from 07:00–18:00.

Zaylen Borg tragically passed away last June after drowning in a newly built pool in a farmhouse neighbouring his family’s home.
