New Open Space Opened In Paola Promoting Inclusion

A new accessible and therapeutic park has opened in Paola, transforming the outdoor area of Aġenzija Sapport’s Day Services Centre into a welcoming public space designed for inclusion, wellbeing, and connection with nature.
Developed by the Ministry for the Environment through Project Green, in collaboration with Aġenzija Sapport, the 5,000-square-metre gardenis named Ġnien Zaylen in memory of Zaylen, an autistic boy who tragically passed away.
The park features sensory pathways, accessible play areas, raised planters, quiet zones, and an inclusive Bocci pitch, all created to encourage relaxation, mobility, and social interaction.
Extensive landscaping, supported by a sustainable irrigation system connected to a restored underground reservoir, ensures the garden’s long-term ecological balance.
Miriam Dalli, Minister for Environment, described the project as “a space that nurtures people and supports dignity and inclusion,” while Minister Julia Farrugia highlighted its role in advancing Malta’s National Autism Strategy 2021–2030.
Ġnien Zaylen is open to the public on weekdays from 12:30 to 18:00 and on weekends from 07:00 to 18:00 throughout the year.
