New Msida Square Comes To Life

The Msida Creek Project has entered a new phase, with final works now underway to open what is being described as the first-ever Msida Square in time for the village's St Joseph Feast.

The new square is already beginning to come to life this weekend as feast preparations and activities get underway.

The major Infrastructure Malta project began in November 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2027. When first announced, the project was designed to completely transform the area with a stronger focus on public spaces, walking, cycling and the environment.

Some of the project's key features include a new 2,200m² square in front of the parish church, a 300-metre water canal covering 2,400m², 1.6km of cycling lanes and pedestrian pathways, as well as the planting of 214 mature trees and around 17,000 shrubs. Around 60% of the entire project is dedicated to public open spaces and environmental improvements.

Last month, Infrastructure Minister Jonathan Attard and Infrastructure Malta CEO Steve Ellul visited the site to inspect progress, particularly around the new square, the church and the surrounding streets.

During the visit, Attard confirmed that the main public spaces would be opened in time for the parish feast, even as work on the wider road infrastructure continues.

Attard said the project is "steadily taking shape", highlighting the significant progress made along the waterfront promenade, where much of the new paving has already been completed.
