New Learning Hub Opens At Kordin Correctional Facility To Boost Rehabilitation

A new learning hub has been inaugurated at the Kordin Correctional Facility, marking a significant step in improving both the environment for staff and inmates and enhancing rehabilitation programmes. The facility is now drug-free and more orderly, allowing greater focus on the education and personal development of residents.
The hub, the second of its kind within the facility, is equipped with modern classrooms and resources for a wide range of subjects including English, Maltese, Mathematics, ICT, and digital skills. Vocational courses such as hairdressing, sewing, and website design will also be offered, alongside employability-focused workshops covering CV writing and personal development.

Currently, around ten educators are teaching within the hub, supported by additional staff from institutions such as MCAST, the Lifelong Learning Directorate, and ITS. A library and art room have also been included, promoting lifelong learning, digital literacy, and creative expression, which has therapeutic benefits.
Speaking at the opening, Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Labour, Byron Camilleri, said,“We want inmates to learn and train so that, upon release, they return to society as better-prepared individuals, capable of finding employment and leading a law-abiding life.”
