New Investment Improves Safety At Marsaxlokk Hard Standing Facility

Further investment has been made in the Hard Standing facility in Marsaxlokk, strengthening health and safety standards during the maintenance of fishing vessels. Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said announced the introduction of four new electric scissor lifts, aimed at supporting fishers in carrying out maintenance work more safely and efficiently.
The new scissor lifts replace the traditional scaffolding that was previously used at the facility. This upgrade allows fishers to access their vessels more easily while reducing risks associated with working at height. The modern equipment is expected to significantly improve safety conditions and streamline maintenance operations.

Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said explained that the investment prioritises the wellbeing of fishers using the Hard Standing facility. She confirmed that the scissor lift service will be provided free of charge and that all users will receive the necessary training to ensure safe and proper use of the equipment.
Acting Director General for Fisheries and Aquaculture Bjorn Azzopardi noted that the scissor lifts form part of a broader programme of investment at the facility. He highlighted other services introduced earlier this year, including a crawling crane service operated by Hard Standing staff. He added that use of the scissor lifts will be coordinated through a booking system managed by the facility’s office.
The investment reflects ongoing efforts to modernise infrastructure and provide practical support to the fishing community.New Investment Improves Safety At Marsaxlokk Hard Standing Facility
