New Helpline Has Now Launched To Aid Victims Of Revenge Porn

A new helpline dedicated to supporting victims of revenge porn has been launched, Social Policy and the Family Minister Michael Falzon announced.

The 1779 service is aimed at people affected by abuse involving the sharing, or threat of sharing, intimate images without the person’s consent, commonly referred to as “revenge porn”.

According to Falzon, the helpline will provide a confidential, non-judgemental and accessible point of contact for those affected.

The service will offer emotional support, safety-focused guidance and information about the options available to victims.

Falzon described the launch as an electoral pledge which has now been implemented during the first months of the current legislature.

The new service forms part of efforts to provide dedicated support to people experiencing image-based sexual abuse, which can involve the unauthorised distribution or threat of distribution of intimate content.

The minister announced the launch in a social media statement, highlighting the availability of 1779 for those seeking support in relation to such abuse.
