The Minister for Health and Active Ageing, Jo Etienne Abela, has inaugurated a Health Services Centre in the heart of Rabat, Gozo.

It was explained that this centre, which previously served as the main primary care clinic, has now been refurbished to accommodate two podiatry clinics and an office for regulatory health services.

In fact, Minister Abela stated that another promise is being fulfilled with the introduction in Gozo of the Office of the Authority for the Standards of Older Persons (OPSA), as well as the Office of the Superintendent of Public Health.

Dr Abela noted that the demand for podiatry services in Gozo continues to grow. He explained that, in a year, the Gozitan team sees over 14,000 patients. Therefore, the relocation of these clinics will improve the service provided, while also creating more space for radiography services at the Primary Health Care Clinic in Rabat, Gozo.

“This centre is the result of the Government’s work towards Vision 2050. We will continue to bring more health services closer to the people of Gozo. We will keep offering services of the highest standard and introduce new ones so that Gozitan patients can receive more care within Gozo itself,” Dr Abela said.

Meanwhile, Primary Health Care Chief Executive Karl Farrugia explained that, out of the 14,000 Gozitan podiatry patients seen each year, around 5,000 will now begin receiving care from this centre, helping to provide a more efficient community-based service.
