New Guides Launched To Help Maltese Patients Travelling Abroad For Medical Treatment

The Karl Vella Foundation, in collaboration with Malta's Treatment Abroad Unit, has launched two new guidebooks aimed at supporting patients who need to travel overseas for medical treatment and their families.
The initiative aims to make an already challenging experience a little easier by providing practical information, emotional support resources and guidance on what patients and their loved ones can expect throughout the process.
The guides include information on accommodation, available support services and useful contacts, alongside firsthand experiences and advice from families who have already undergone similar journeys.
Through its Because You Matter service, the Karl Vella Foundation also provides free psychological and emotional support to patients, donors, caregivers and family members, including those who remain in Malta. This support continues even after patients return home.
The initiative was officially launched in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Ian Borg, Minister for Inclusion and Voluntary Organisations Julia Farrugia and Minister for Social Policy and the Family Michael Falzon.
During the launch, Minister Ian Borg emphasised that healthcare goes beyond medical treatment, highlighting the importance of emotional reassurance and personal support.
Minister Julia Farrugia highlighted the valuable role of voluntary organisations in supporting families during difficult times, while Minister Michael Falzon praised initiatives that provide practical assistance, hope and reassurance to those facing medical challenges.
