New €20,000 Van To Help Service Dogs Reach People Who Need Them Most

The Ministry for Inclusion and Volunteering is providing €20,000 in financial assistance to Service Dogs Malta Foundation to help it purchase a specially adapted van for the safe transport of assistance dogs.
The funding is being provided through the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme (VOPS), administered by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS).
The project, titled Accessible Transport for Independence, will support the transportation of both trained assistance dogs and those still undergoing training, alongside service users and volunteers.
The van will be used for veterinary appointments, medical check-ups, training sessions and community activities.
According to the project description, the investment will help the foundation overcome logistical challenges, improve the dogs’ welfare during transport and increase its capacity to match more assistance dogs with people who need them.
The vehicle will also allow the foundation to organise more community visits and awareness-raising activities about the role of assistance dogs.
These initiatives aim to help the public better understand how assistance dogs support people with disabilities and enable them to participate more fully in society.
