New Disability Support Facility Inaugurated in Kirkop

A new €1.4 million facility aimed at strengthening support services for persons with disabilities has been inaugurated in Kirkop. The building, named “Spalla”, will be operated by Aġenzija Sapport and will provide respite care services as well as transitional support for individuals seeking to live independently within the community.

The project delivers on a Budget measure to establish a respite centre in the south of Malta, ensuring that persons with disabilities and their families have access to more services closer to where they live.

The facility is expected to begin operations in September 2026, with service management entrusted to the Inspire Foundation.

Spalla will be able to accommodate up to 12 individuals at any one time. Each person using the service will undergo an individual assessment by professionals from Aġenzija Sapport to ensure that support is tailored to their specific needs and aspirations.

A multidisciplinary team of professionals will monitor and support each resident’s progress, helping them achieve greater independence and inclusion within the community.
