The Civil Protection Department (CPD) has officially inaugurated its newly refurbished Headquarters and new Fire Dispatch Operations Centre (FDOC) during a ceremony attended by Home Affairs, Security and Employment Minister Glenn Bedingfield and Civil Protection Director General Peter Paul Coleiro.

The project, which involved an investment of more than €1.5 million, forms part of the Department's ongoing modernisation programme aimed at strengthening Malta's emergency response services.

The refurbishment included the expansion of the Headquarters administration building, doubling its previous capacity while providing improved facilities and working spaces for CPD personnel.

A key feature of the project is the new Fire Dispatch Operations Centre, equipped with the latest technology and AI integrated systems to improve emergency response coordination, operational efficiency and real time situational awareness.

The investment also includes a new vehicle monitoring system, with 40 frontline emergency vehicles fitted with five cameras each. The system allows live visual information to be transmitted directly to the operations centre, giving dispatchers and commanders a clearer picture of incidents as they unfold.

The Department said the investment will further strengthen its operational capabilities while enhancing the emergency services provided across Malta and Gozo.
