New Centre For Domestic Violence Victims Opening In Imtarfa This Month

This month, a third hub for victims of domestic violence will be opening in Imtarfa.
Services for support and assistance will be available at the Centre from member of the Malta Police Force, and professionals specialised in domestic violence.
It will also offer a space for victims can giver their side of the story in a private space, far from their aggressor.
A hub of this manner already exists in Santa Luċija, and in Rabat, Gozo .
Angelo Gafà, Commissioner officer of Police, stated that since staring the Unit for Domestic Violence and General Violence, they’ve seen a 70% increase in DV reports.
He continued to state that Malta has the highest rate of gender-based violence in Europe with a rate of 48%, almost double the average rate for the rest of Europe.
