A new freephone service has been launched to make it easier for older people and their families to contact the Authority for the Standards of Older Persons (OPSA). The new 1578 service was launched by Parliamentary Secretary Deo Debattista together with OPSA Chief Executive Officer George Fenech.

Through the freephone, older people, relatives and members of the public can contact OPSA directly with questions, concerns or complaints related to services provided in residential homes for older people. The service is aimed at making OPSA more accessible and providing a simpler and more direct way for people to raise concerns.

Parliamentary Secretary Debattista said the initiative will further strengthen accessibility to services for older people and their families. “When an older person or family member has a concern, it is important that they know where they can turn to and that they find someone who will listen to them,” Debattista said.

“The Freephone 1578 makes this contact easier and more direct. Above all, we are continuing to send the message that the voice of our older people matters and should be heard.” OPSA CEO George Fenech said the launch of the freephone is another step towards bringing the Authority closer to the people it serves.

He explained that the new service will allow OPSA to receive and address questions, concerns and complaints in a more direct and efficient manner. The freephone forms part of OPSA’s ongoing work to strengthen communication with older people and their families, while continuing to work towards quality services that protect their rights.

The 1578 freephone will be available during office hours.
