Neville Gafa Announces Official Resignation

Neville Gafà announced on Saturday that he had resigned from his role as a person of trust within the Parliamentary Secretariat for Social Dialogue, effective immediately. His resignation followed the publication of a controversial blog post earlier that morning on his personal website.

The announcement came through a public statement issued earlier today, in which Gafa apologised if his comments had offended anyone, clarifying that his views were personal and did not represent the position of the Labour Party.

In his statement, Gafa said, “I wish to apologise if in any way I hurt anyone’s feelings. What I wrote reflects only my personal opinion and not that of the Labour Party. This is a fact, as shown by the great achievements made in Malta in the area of minority rights.” He confirmed that he had submitted his resignation to the Office of the Prime Minister, effective immediately.

The resignation follows growing criticism over Gafa’s recent online activity, including a series of social media posts and videos that attracted controversy. Prime Minister Robert Abela had earlier distanced the government from Gafa’s comments and actions, saying they were made in a personal capacity and did not reflect official policy.

Gafa, who served as a person of trust within the government, had been criticised for removing flowers from a memorial to murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and for remarks described as inflammatory.
