Neil Agius Kicks Off ‘Gozo 7’ Endurance Challenge

Endurance athlete Neil Agius has embarked on his latest test of human resilience, beginning a gruelling seven-day challenge to swim around Gozo seven times in as many days.
Dubbed the Gozo 7, the challenge began at 6am on Sunday at Ramla Bay, where Agius faced a 1.5-metre swell and winds reaching 15 knots.
Each day he will complete a full 42km loop around the island, spending between 13 to 15 hours in the water. Over the course of the week, he aims to swim a total of 294km.
Unlike his previous world record attempts, this challenge is being described as a live experiment in human endurance. Agius is accompanied by a scientific team that will closely monitor how his body responds to extreme stress, recovery and repeated exertion.
“This time it is not for a world record but to explore what it means to be more human,” Agius wrote on social media. “The Gozo 7 is about understanding limits, listening to our bodies, and discovering how we can show up stronger every day.”
Agius will follow strict rules throughout the swim: no wetsuits, flotation devices or boat contact. He will wear only a swimsuit, cap and goggles, with food and liquids passed to him using sticks and ropes to ensure no external support.
His 18-member support team will assist him from start to finish, with each swim beginning and ending at different points around Gozo.
