Naxxar To Celebrate 300th Anniversary Of Titular Statue With Festive Week
Naxxar is preparing for one of the most significant editions of its Titular Feast of Our Lady of the Nativity, with this year's celebrations marking the 300th anniversary of the arrival of the town's titular statue.
The Peace Band Club, Naxxar, has announced a programme of events that will combine music, fireworks and long-standing Maltese feast traditions in honour of the historic milestone.
The commemorations will begin on 1 September during the Society's annual reception, when a memorial commemorating the 300th anniversary will be officially inaugurated. The ceremony will be led by Speaker of the House of Representatives Carmelo Abela.
Celebrations will continue on Saturday, 5 September, with the Peace Band performing a traditional march through the streets of Naxxar from 8.30pm.
At around 10.00pm, the band will enter the village square for an evening of music and celebrations before concluding outside the Society's premises opposite the Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Nativity.
The evening will end with a mechanised ground fireworks display synchronised to music by the Our Lady of the Nativity Fireworks Association, Naxxar. The association recently earned the title of Malta Mechanised Fireworks Champion 2026.
On Monday, 7 September, the eve of the feast, the Peace Band will perform the annual Feast Musical Programme on Naxxar's bandstand.
The concert will celebrate the town's musical and band tradition and will feature singer Mary Spiteri under the direction of Bandmaster Lino Pirotta, who this year is marking 35 years as Musical Director of the band.
Following the concert, at around 12.15am, the Our Lady of the Nativity Fireworks Association will stage another synchronised fireworks display from the roof of the Peace Band Club premises.
The festivities will culminate on Tuesday, 8 September, the feast day itself. The Peace Band will welcome the titular statue at the entrance to the Collegiate Church before accompanying the procession through the streets of Naxxar with Marian hymns.
According to the Peace Band Club, this year's programme is intended to commemorate three centuries of devotion to Our Lady of the Nativity while highlighting the music, fireworks, volunteer work and traditions that continue to make the feast a central part of Naxxar's cultural identity.
The Society has invited the Maltese and Gozitan public to attend the celebrations, particularly the events taking place on 5, 7 and 8 September.
