Nature Trust Condemn The Use Of Glue Traps That Cause "Severe Suffering" For Animals

Nature Trust - FEE Malta have taken to social media to condemn the use of glue traps, which they stated cause "sever suffering" for animals.

The NGO reported an incident which occurred in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq where three lizards and a gecko got stuck on a glue trap.

"By the time they were discovered, one of the lizards and the gecko had already died," stated the organisation.

"Our volunteers carefully freed the remaining two lizards from the adhesive, but sadly one had sustained serious injuries during its desperate attempts to escape and died shortly afterwards," they continued.

Nature Trust explained how the use of glue traps can lead to skin tearing, limbs being damaged or ripped off, and feathers or fur being stuck with the adhesive.

"Eventually, it may simply become exhausted and completely immobilised. Unable to reach water, food or shelter, a trapped animal may remain there for hours or even longer," they stated, explaining how the animal will eventually die injured, scared, and alone.

"These images are a painful reminder that something designed for pest control can have devastating consequences for completely unintended victims," they stated.

The NGO reminded the public not to rip off any animals they may find on a glue trap, urging to call wildlife rescuers instead.
