Nationalisty Party Mark Independence Day With Fosos Rally

Partit Nazzjonalista Leader and Leader of the Opposition Alex Borg said Malta must continue safeguarding the achievements of Independence, telling supporters that the responsibility for protecting the country's freedom now rests with the present generation.

Addressing the PN's Independence Mass Meeting at the Granaries in Floriana, held under the theme "A free country. A country without fear", Borg reflected on the 62nd anniversary of Independence and praised the leadership of Ġorġ Borg Olivier and the Partit Nazzjonalista for believing Malta could govern itself.

Borg announced that a new Office of the Leader of the Opposition will open in Valletta, saying the move will make him more accessible to the public, strengthen government scrutiny and bring the Opposition closer to Castille.

He also revealed that the PN is preparing a new party statute aimed at strengthening its internal structures and positioning it as a future governing party.

Referring to recent events, Borg stressed the importance of independent journalism, saying that while politicians may disagree with reporting, a free press remains essential to democracy.

He also criticised Prime Minister Robert Abela over the pace of justice following the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, while accusing the Prime Minister of repeatedly misleading the public on several issues. Borg argued that politicians have a duty to tell the truth, even when it is difficult.

The Opposition leader highlighted proposals the PN has put forward in recent months, including measures related to the electricity crisis, institutional reform and the implementation of the Daphne public inquiry recommendations.

He also said the party had published its outstanding financial reports and challenged the Labour Party to do the same.

Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione and Secretary General Charles Bonello also addressed the meeting, calling for stronger institutions and a country free from fear.
