Nationalist Party Insist's Labour Party's New "Y" Plate Proposal Was First Proposed By PN

The Nationalist Party has insisted that the new law limiting the number of consecutive hours that cab drivers may work had lareadybeen implemented by the Malta Labour Party had already been put forward by the Nationalist Party more than a year ago.

The latter remarked that this is an important measure that prioritizes road safety, with well-rested drivers leading to safer roads, greater protection for passengers and fairer working conditions for those employed in the sector. The Nationalist Party thus welcomed the fact that the government has finally chosen to implement this proposal.

However, the party insisted that this is only part of the solution, stating that Malta’s mobility crisis extends far beyond Y-plate drivers, and many other transport and traffic related problems remain unresolved. These problems include excessive traffic and congestion, lack of parking, time wasted on the roads, the burden on businesses, the quality of the public transport service and the absence of long-term planning.

The Nationalist Party insisted that it will continue working constructively to put forward concrete solutions to these challenges, emphasising that they will continue insisting that the country needs a comprehensive plan addressing all mobility challenges, not just one.

The PN concluded by remarking that Maltese families, workers and businesses deserve a mobility system that is safer, more efficient and designed around the needs of today and tomorrow, remaining committed to continue putting forward the proposals needed to make this happen.
