Tomorrow, Malta and Gozo will mark 45 years since the death of Ġorġ Borg Olivier, widely regarded as the father of Independent Malta.

Without the courage shown by this statesman and leader, our country might have remained under British rule instead of achieving independence. Ġorġ Borg Olivier had a vision for Malta, and he was determined to see it realised.

The Nationalist Party wrote, ‘The Nationalist Party is proud that, through Ġorġ Borg Olivier’s vision, it was the party that handed the reins of this nation into the hands of its people.’

In a tribute to the former Prime Minister and former Leader of the Nationalist Party, PN Leader Alex Borg, accompanied by a delegation, laid a wreath at the Ġorġ Borg Olivier monument in Valletta.

Ġorġ Borg Olivier passed away on 29 October 1980.
