Nationalist Party Believes Unplanned Rise In Population Affects Energy Demand

The Nationalist Party has spoken out after the numerous power cuts across Malta and Gozo, arguing that an unplanned rise in population directly affects energy demand.

A number of localities experienced a loss of electricity with times ranging from just 10 minutes of no power, all the way to a couple of hours. Enemalta explained that the issue was due to an interruption other one of the Liquefied Natural Gas plants, resulting in the loss of around 200W of generation.

The Nationalist Party has remarked that according to Prime Minister Robert Abela, population growth does not affect energy demand.

In Malta, affected localities included Qormi, Żebbuġ, Żabbar, Żejtun, Attard, St Paul’s Bay, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, Balzan, Birkirkara, Birżebbuġa, Għaxaq, Ħamrun, Iklin, Kalkara, Marsa, Marsaskala, Marsaxlokk, Mellieħa, Mosta, Msida, Santa Venera, San Ġwann, Swieqi and Siġġiewi.

In Gozo, residents in Victoria, Munxar, Nadur, Qala, Fontana, Għajnsielem, Għarb, Għasri, Sannat, Xagħra, Xewkija and Żebbuġ were affected.
