Nationalist Leader Alex Borg Supports Malta’s Recognition Of Palestine

Opposition Leader Alex Borg has welcomed the Maltese government’s decision to formally recognise the State of Palestine, calling it an important step towards peace in the Middle East.
Reacting in a statement on social media, Borg said: “I welcome with satisfaction the decision of the Maltese Government to recognise the State of Palestine tonight – a step we have long emphasised.”
He added that “the two-state solution remains the only viable path forward for peace.”
Borg’s comments reflect a rare moment of unity between Malta’s political parties, as Prime Minister Robert Abela announced earlier that Malta would be joining dozens of other nations in officially recognising Palestine.
The government has stressed that the decision is not an attack on Israel but a reaffirmation of Malta’s long-standing support for a two-state solution, with both Israel and Palestine co-existing in security and mutual recognition.
By endorsing the recognition, Borg signalled the Nationalist Party’s alignment with the principle that Palestinians are entitled to self-determination, while Israel retains its right to exist in safety.
