My Goal Is Not To Reduce The Gap But To Win Upcoming Election, Says Alex Borġ

Alex Borg, leader of the Nationalist Party, delivered his first speech at a mass meeting held at Pjazza Tritoni in Valletta to celebrate Malta’s Independence.
Addressing a large crowd, Borg reflected on Malta’s political history, paying tribute to former leaders including Gorġ Borg Olivier, Eddie Fenech Adami, Lawrence Gonzi, Simon Busuttil, Adrian Delia, and his predecessor Bernard Grech. He said that each played a role in shaping both the party and the country.
Borg also addressed the challenges facing Malta today, referencing a recent Auditor General’s report on government spending and criticising what he described as outdated political practices.
He reassured the crown that PN would present new proposals in the coming weeks covering areas such as traffic management, housing, health, environmental protection, and Gozo’s development.
The PN leader emphasised his intention to lead as a representative of all Maltese and Gozitans, stressing unity and inclusivity, as according to him, the Nationalist Party has historically secured electoral victories whenever it stood united, and he believes it is united once again.
He also highlighted his plans to reintroduce hope in politics by focusing on quality of life and sustainable growth.
Borg made it clear that his goal as party leader is not to close the gap between PN and the Labour Party in the upcoming general election, but rather to win. He continued by stating that the Nationalist Party is the future as people desire great change.
Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione and Secretary General Charles Bonello also addressed the event. Both underlined the party’s renewed energy under Borg’s leadership, calling for unity and continued work toward future electoral success.
Earlier in the day, a PN delegation laid a wreath at the Independence monument in Floriana to mark the occasion.
