"My Biggest Wish As A Mother Is That My Daughter Has A Future Without Violence": Rebecca Buttigieg Launches Campaign Against Gender-Based

For the fourth consecutive year, Rebecca Buttigieg, Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms and Equality, has launched the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign.
Malta, together with many other countries, once again reaffirms its commitment to combating violence and promoting respect within relationships.
In her opening speech, Buttigieg announced this year’s theme: “Għandna Ħolma: Futur mingħajr Vjolenza.”
She reflected on its personal significance, saying, “My biggest wish as a mother, and any parent for sure, is that my daughter has a good life and a future without violence.”
She concluded by inviting the public to help make this shared dream a reality.
Over the next 16 days, a series of initiatives will focus on raising awareness about gender-based violence.
Installations designed to spark discussion have been placed in seven localities, accompanied by the teddy bear symbol, representing the strengthening of relationships through love.
Recent figures show that nearly 3,800 people used state services related to domestic violence last year, 76% of whom were women.
The campaign continues to emphasise support for all victims while advancing the national strategy against domestic violence, with almost 30% of its 81 measures already fully implemented.
