Multiple Hedgehogs Rescued & Healed Thanks To Nature Trust Efforts

The Nature Trust - FEE Malta Wildlife Rescue Teams have been busy over the past few days, rescuing and rehabilitating hedgehogs found in need.

Among them was Mrs. T, who was picked up in Marsalforn last week in severe respiratory distress. An X-Ray revealed blood in her stomach. But through some very careful treatment, she managed to recover very quickly.

Despite not being ready for the return to the wild yet, she is making rapid progress towards her release.

Another was Potato, who had a severe case of ringworm that caused him to lose large areas of fur and spines, leaving much of his body bare.

Due to his round, punk and un-spiky look, he earned the name Potato. Now however, just a month of treatment and care, his transformation is spectacular.

He is looking very much like a hedgehog again!

‘Ringworm is a fungal infection, and while a few missing spines or small bald patches may not immediately look alarming, without treatment it can progress significantly and leave a hedgehog increasingly vulnerable.’
