PN MP Eve Borg Bonello Calls For Inclusive Green Energy Policies At EU Inter-Parliamentary Meeting

PN MP Eve Borg Bonello represented the Maltese Parliament at the 25th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting (IPM25) on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, held from 17 to 18 October 2025 in Copenhagen. The event was hosted under the auspices of EUFORES and the Danish EU Council Presidency.

IPM25 is a high-level forum bringing together Members of Parliament from across the European Union, alongside stakeholders from the European Commission, national governments, industry, academia, and NGOs. The meeting provides a platform to exchange best practices and debate the future direction of renewable energy in Europe. The programme focused on key issues including the Clean Industrial Deal, the European Green Deal, and the national implementation of climate and energy policies.
During her participation in Copenhagen, PN MP Eve Borg Bonello actively engaged in several panels and discussions, presenting Malta’s perspective as a small island state on the EU’s periphery.
She highlighted both the challenges and opportunities posed by Malta’s unique geographical and economic context.
In her remarks, PN MP Borg Bonello emphasised that, despite these constraints, Malta remains committed to advancing green energy alternatives, particularly policies and projects that support the most vulnerable communities. She stated that the success of green energy initiatives depends on ensuring their economic rationale benefits all citizens.
PN MP Borg Bonello urged her European counterparts to design legislation, financing mechanisms, and incentive schemes that address regional disparities, support energy-poor households, and ensure no community is left behind in the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future.
