Moviment Graffiti Respond To Padel Courts On Manoel Island

Activist group Moviment Graffiti and campaign initiative Manoel Island Post Għalina have criticised works being carried out by Gżira United Football Club on Manoel Island, warning against what they described as a piecemeal approach to the island’s future.
In a joint statement, the groups argued that the area where the club is developing padel courts cannot be considered separately from broader plans for the site, as Gżira United Football Club stated.
According to the organisations, treating the project in isolation risks opening the door to development driven by private interests rather than a national vision.
They said this would undermine calls by thousands of people for Manoel Island to become a non-commercial national park and challenge ongoing public consultation efforts.
The groups also alleged that the works are illegal, noting that the only planning application related to the site has not yet been fully submitted or approved.
They said a formal complaint has been filed with the Planning Authority.
