Moviment Graffiti Launch Crowdfunding Campaign To "Save Comino"

Moviment Graffiti has launched a crowdfunding campaign to challenge the ERA permit allowing 800 trees to be uprooted from Comino’s Nature Reserve.

The activist group condemned ERA’s decision to approve the uprooting and allow heavy construction works in the environmentally sensitive area, calling it “a betrayal of its mission to protect our environment.”

The development plans include 44 swimming pools, 16 villas and a 140-room hotel.

Moviment Graffiti is also challenging the decision to allow construction works to begin before the permit becomes definitive.

The approval sparked widespread public outrage, prompting ERA to defend its decision.

The ERA released a statement responding to the public outcry, explaining that they have “placed an obligation on the applicant to plant 540 new indigenous trees on the island.”

ERA said the plans are backed by its scientific expertise and the findings of a mandatory Environmental Impact Assessment, which examined the project’s impact on trees and vegetation.

The group is now seeking public support through its crowdfunding campaign to fight the permit.
