Moviment Graffiti has called on Malta to boycott the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, following the European Broadcasting Union’s decision to allow Israel to participate despite its ongoing military actions in Gaza.

The appeal forms part of a new campaign titled “Malta: No Music for Genocide,” launched in collaboration with Palestine solidarity groups and an organisation representing workers in the arts and entertainment sector.

The campaign argues that cultural events are inherently political, pointing to Russia’s exclusion from Eurovision after its invasion of Ukraine as a clear precedent.

Activists say Israel is instead being allowed to use the contest to project a sense of normality, despite what they describe as an ongoing extermination campaign against the Palestinian people.

According to the groups, more than 70,000 Palestinians have been killed, with children, journalists and healthcare workers deliberately targeted.

The campaign also highlights Israel’s military actions beyond Gaza, including attacks in Lebanon and Syria.

Moviment Graffiti is urging the Maltese Government and PBS to withdraw Malta’s participation, aligning with other European countries that have raised objections.

Artists and civil society groups have also been invited to endorse the campaign publicly.
