More Than 30,000 Visitors At This Year’s Playcon

This year’s Playcon welcomed over 30,000 visitors, cementing its status as Malta’s largest gaming and esports event. The expo brought together local and international developers, esports athletes, and creative cosplayers, showcasing the island’s growing influence in the global gaming scene.
Speaking at the event, Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, reflected on the vision that began six years ago to put Malta firmly on the map for video game development and esports, creating new opportunities for the country’s economy.
Through careful planning and strategic execution, that vision is now taking shape. Speaking at the fifth edition of Playcon, Schembri expressed great satisfaction at what has been achieved so far. Maltese and international video game companies are operating successfully from the island, achieving significant milestones, while hundreds of Maltese workers are benefiting from the opportunities generated by this growing sector.
Education and training have also been key priorities. Over 400 students from Malta and Gozo have already been certified by Unity, with another 200 expected to complete their certification next year. This has ensured that local talent is equipped with globally recognised skills, helping to meet the demands of an expanding industry.
The event showcased more than just games. Creative cosplayers turned heads with their unforgettable looks and competitive spirit, while esports athletes delivered top-tier performances that thrilled audiences. Above all, the organisers thanked the attendees themselves, whose energy and enthusiasm form the heartbeat of PLAYCON, making it Malta’s largest event of its kind.
PLAYCON 2026 has already been promised, ensuring that Malta’s place on the global map of gaming and esports will continue to grow.
