More Than 190,000 Patients Treated At Ċensu Moran Regional Health Centre

More than 190,000 patients have received treatment at the Ċensu Moran Regional Health Centre since it opened in September 2025, as the facility continues to expand the range of healthcare services available closer to people's homes.

During a visit to the Centre, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Ian Borg met with management, healthcare professionals and staff to discuss the Centre's progress over the past year and plans for further expansion.

The Centre provides a wide range of primary and secondary healthcare services and is helping to reduce pressure on Mater Dei Hospital by offering patients high quality care within the community.

The Government is continuing to invest in the Centre, with plans including the introduction of a CT scanner and the establishment of a Medical Investigation and Treatment Unit (MITU), alongside several other new services. During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister also announced that studies are underway to replicate the Ċensu Moran model in Malta's northern region.

Ian Borg said the Centre demonstrates how primary and secondary healthcare can work together to improve patient care by offering more services under one roof. He added that the Government intends to continue expanding the model in other parts of the country.

Medical Administrator Dr Michael Farrugia said the Centre now offers services including a GP Walk-in emergency service, X-ray facilities, an ophthalmic operating theatre, treatment rooms and numerous specialist outpatient clinics. Since January, 1,516 pain management procedures have been carried out, while 135 eye operations have been performed since July.

He added that dermatology, ENT, dental, orthotics, advanced cardiac investigations, as well as additional oncology and paediatric services, are expected to be introduced in the coming months, further strengthening community-based healthcare across Malta.
