Monument Inaugurated In Naxxar Commemorating Two Historic Anniversaries

A commemorative monument has been inaugurated at Palazzo Vittoria in Naxxar to mark two important anniversaries linked to the history of the Peace Musical Society and the local community.
The monument, located at the headquarters of the Peace Musical Society, was inaugurated on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, by Speaker of the House of Representatives Carmelo Abela together with Peace Musical Society President Marlon Brincat.
The memorial commemorates the 75th anniversary of the consecration of Palazzo Vittoria to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The event represented a significant milestone in the history of the Peace Musical Society, which is the first band club established in Naxxar.
The monument also marks the 300th anniversary of the arrival of the titular statue of the Child Mary among the people of Naxxar in 1726, an occasion that continues to hold deep religious and cultural significance for the community.
Through this initiative, the Peace Musical Society has brought together two important aspects of Naxxar’s heritage: the history and contribution of the band club, and the religious traditions and devotion that have shaped the community over the centuries.
The society said the monument serves as a lasting tribute to these historic anniversaries and honours the dedication of all those who, throughout the years, worked to preserve Naxxar’s faith, culture and traditions for future generations.
As part of the celebrations for the feast of the Child Mary, the Peace Musical Society is inviting Maltese and Gozitan visitors to visit Naxxar and participate in the festivities. Visitors are also encouraged to visit Palazzo Vittoria and view the commemorative monument, which will remain as a permanent reminder of these important milestones
