Momentum Writes to Prime Minister, Opposition Leader And Valletta FC Against Pembroke Football Ground

Arnold Cassola, leader of Momentum, has written to Prime Minister Robert Abela, Opposition leader Alex Borg, and the President of Valletta F.C. regarding the ongoing debate over the club’s proposed football ground.
In his letter, Cassola outlined the advantages of constructing the ground in Marsa at the former power station site rather than on undeveloped land in Pembroke.
He argued that while Valletta deserves a modern facility, the impact on Pembroke residents must be carefully considered.
“There’s no doubt that the club of our capital city deserves a high level ground,” stated Cassola, “At the same time, residents of Pembroke and surrounding areas are already affected by inconveniences of other projects.”
Cassola highlighted the concentration of developments in the area, including major projects, schools, sports facilities and the Chinese Embassy, insisting that “we can’t deprive them of the virgin land that is being sacrificed for a Valletta project.”
Momentum instead pointed to Marsa as a more suitable alternative, citing existing developed land, proximity to Valletta, potential regeneration of the area, and reduced traffic impact.
“A win-win situation for everyone,” Cassola concluded.
The full letter sent to Abela, Borg, and Valletta F.C is available on Momentum’s website.
