This morning, Momentum unveiled an additional five new electoral plans, aimed at creating “a fairer, greener and more transparent Malta.”

The proposals include enshrining the principle of non-discrimination based on age and disability into Malta’s Constitution, diversifying local council income streams to reduce over-reliance on central government, and the promotion of workplace policies which allow women to work while raising a family.

Additionally, they are also proposing that key public appointments require a two-thirds majority vote in Parliament. For roles not subject to parliamentary approval, interviews should be recorded, scored, and published to the public to ensure appointments are based on merit.

Lastly, Momentum emphasised the need for a media regulatory authority that is free from partisan and government influence. They stated that The Public Broadcasting Authority would no longer include members of political parties.

“These are some of the proposals reflecting Momentum’s commitment to various issues relating to our society, such as good governance, justice, a better democracy and family needs, offering practical solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing Malta today,” stated Mark Camilleri Gambin, election candidate and general secretary of Momentum.
