Momentum Urges MPs To Reject Pembroke Stadium Plans

Momentum has called on Members of Parliament to back an alternative proposal for Valletta FC's new stadium, arguing that the club can be given modern facilities without sacrificing natural land in Pembroke.

The party is urging elected MPs to consider the former Marsa power station site be granted to Valletta FC for the development of a new football ground and related facilities.

They’re also encouraging parliament to extend the existing Natura 2000 protected area in Pembroke to include nearby undeveloped public land currently earmarked for development.

Momentum leader Arnold Cassola said the proposal would allow Malta to support sporting development while safeguarding one of the island's remaining natural open spaces.

He criticised plans backed by both the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party to build a stadium in Pembroke, warning that the project could lead to irreversible environmental damage through increased traffic, parking pressure, noise and light pollution affecting nearby protected habitats.

Cassola insisted Valletta FC deserves a modern stadium but argued that the former Marsa power station site offers a viable alternative that would avoid developing environmentally sensitive land.
