Momentum Unveils Proposals To Reward And Support Malta’s Volunteers

Momentum has announced a series of proposals aimed at giving greater recognition and support to Malta’s voluntary sector ahead of the next general election.
As part of its ongoing manifesto campaign, the party said voluntary organisations play a crucial role in areas such as community services, sports, culture and environmental protection, yet remain underfunded and overlooked by successive governments.
Among the proposals, Momentum pledged to extend the current tax rebate scheme for donations to cover all enrolled voluntary organisations, rather than limiting it to selected sectors.
The party also called for reforms to non-residential electricity tariffs, arguing that small organisations are unfairly subsidising large commercial operators.
Another key proposal would see registered volunteers awarded accredited points linked to tax credits and formal CV recognition, aimed particularly at helping young people entering the workforce.
Matthew Agius said voluntary organisations had “been praised in speeches and ignored in policy,” insisting the sector deserves fairer treatment and proper recognition.
