MOMENTUM UNVEILS FIVE NEW PROPOSALS AHEAD OF GENERAL ELECTION

Momentum has unveiled a new set of proposals from its 2026 electoral manifesto, outlining five key commitments that it says are absent from the platforms of Malta’s main political parties.
Speaking on behalf of the party, Dr Alastair Farrugia, a candidate in the 4th and 5th Districts, criticised the long-standing record of the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party. He argued that both have had ample time to address persistent national issues but have failed to do so, positioning Momentum as a force for meaningful change.
Among the proposals is a two-year moratorium on new permits for high-rise developments exceeding ten floors, aimed at reassessing their impact on communities and infrastructure. The party is also calling for independent annual audits of elected officials’ assets through a strengthened Public Integrity framework.
Other measures include the introduction of a tax on second vacant properties to support social housing, reforms to strengthen freedom of information laws, and a complete overhaul of the Planning Authority to eliminate conflicts of interest and restore public trust.
