Momentum's Mark Camilleri Gambin Elected Deputy Secretary General Of European Democratic Party

Momentum’s General Secretary, Mark Camilleri Gambin, has been elected Deputy Secretary General of the European Democratic Party (EDP) at the party’s Congress in Bilbao. The appointment represents a major milestone in Momentum’s collaboration with European partners and is a notable achievement for third-party politics in Malta.
Camilleri Gambin’s new role underscores the EDP’s commitment to prioritising human-centric innovation and safeguarding fundamental rights in the digital era issues that sit at the heart of Momentum’s agenda in Malta. Speaking after his election, he said, “We are at a crossroads where we must decide whether technology will dictate our democracy or democracy will shape our technology. I am honoured to take on this role to ensure that Europe chooses the latter, rejecting the ‘efficiency trap’ and making sure that innovation serves workers, protects our children from being monetised by social media, and defends our fundamental rights. We do not fear the future, but we insist it works for the people.”
The appointment provides a direct channel for Maltese voices within a major European political family, strengthening the bridge between local activism and continental policymaking. Momentum now has an enhanced platform to bring key issues such as online child safety and environmental protection to the European stage, ensuring these concerns are represented in broader discussions.
Sandro Gozi, Secretary General of the European Democratic Party, welcomed the appointment, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Mark Camilleri Gambin to his new role as Deputy Secretary General. Both he and Arnold Cassola bring a long-standing pro-European commitment and a reform-minded approach that strengthens our presence in Malta. Together, we will work towards a more effective and fairer Europe, firmly committed to transparency, fighting corruption, and defending the rule of law key principles to protect our citizens and resist populist pressures.”
