Momentum Propose Linking First Aid Certification To Getting A Driving License

Momentum is proposing that first aid certification be linked to obtaining a driving licence, arguing that every new driver should be equipped with the skills to respond to emergencies on Malta's roads.
The party says such a measure would create a nationwide network of motorists capable of providing immediate, life-saving assistance before paramedics arrive, improving survival rates in time-critical situations.
The proposal forms part of Momentum's wider National First Aid Campaign, which aims to establish a baseline of life-saving knowledge across the country.
It also calls for compulsory basic first aid training for all secondary school students, ensuring every young person leaves school with essential emergency response skills.
To make the initiative accessible, Momentum proposes government and EU funding, bulk training schemes for schools, and tax credits for employers.
The campaign would also incorporate mental first aid, while promoting greater public confidence, stronger community resilience, and lower long-term healthcare costs through earlier intervention.
