Momentum has expressed concern following the acquittal of Lorin Scicluna in the trial concerning the 2019 killing of Lassana Cisse.

In a statement, the party recalled how Cisse, a father of two, was shot dead while walking home in Ħal Far seven years ago, while three other men were also attacked. It said nobody had been held responsible for the killing.

Momentum questioned how the case ended without anyone being held accountable, despite admissions made in court by the accused, including that he had driven the car that night and that he and his companion had previously driven around Ħal Far “looking for black people” to harass.

The party also questioned why the prosecution had been unable to prove shared intent, which could have amounted to complicity, and called on the Attorney General to explain how the case was built and presented.

It also drew comparisons with the Yorgen Fenech case, arguing that both trials raised questions about the ability of institutions to establish responsibility in serious crimes.

Momentum further questioned why it took seven years for the case to reach a jury, arguing that delays can weaken evidence and leave families waiting for justice.

“How can citizens expect fair judgement when murders in this country take years to reach court, only to end with nobody held to account? A system that cannot deliver justice for Lassana Cisse cannot promise it to anyone,” General Secretary Mark Camilleri Gambin said.

The party concluded by calling for urgent reforms to Malta's justice system, adding that the families of Lassana Cisse and Daphne Caruana Galizia deserve justice.
