Momentum officials have held talks with researcher and innovator Conrad Neil Gatt on a wide-ranging set of proposals aimed at transforming Malta’s cultural tourism sector.

During the meeting, Gatt outlined a vision centred on leveraging the island’s historical assets to attract higher-quality visitors while preserving cultural heritage.

Party leader Arnold Cassola and General Secretary Mark Camilleri Gambin welcomed several initiatives, particularly plans for cultural trekking routes and the restoration of historic underground tunnels.

Key proposals include reopening passages linking Mtarfa to Saqqajja and Floriana’s Argotti Gardens to Valletta. These routes could serve as safe corridors for pedestrians and cyclists, reducing congestion and pollution.

Camilleri Gambin praised the practicality of the ideas, stressing the need to prioritise achievable projects over large-scale developments.

Momentum also endorsed proposals for children-focused cultural content and greater public access to subterranean maps. The party confirmed it will incorporate several of Gatt’s recommendations into its policy framework.
