In Moldova’s parliamentary elections held on 28 September 2025, the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) secured a clear majority, reaffirming the country’s commitment to European integration. The victory marks a decisive step for Moldova as it continues its path towards EU membership.

Moldova formally applied for EU membership in March 2022 and was granted candidate status on 22 June 2022. Since then, the country has been undertaking the necessary political and economic reforms to align with EU standards.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola hailed the election result as “a historic step forward”, praising the Moldovan people for choosing “the path of democracy, hope and opportunities”. Her statement on social media concluded with the rallying words: “Europa este Moldova. Moldova este Europa.”

Following the election, Moldova’s next steps include negotiating the EU accession chapters, implementing key reforms in the judiciary, rule of law, and anti-corruption measures, and preparing to meet the EU’s criteria for full membership.
