The second edition of the ‘Minn Pjazza għal Pjazza’ initiative is set to return in the coming months, bringing a lively programme of cultural and artistic activities to village squares across Malta and Gozo.

Following the success of last year’s edition, the Local Government Division will once again fund the initiative in collaboration with Local Councils. A total of 43 councils applied to take part, highlighting strong interest from communities across the islands.

Announced during a press conference by Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici and Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli, the initiative aims to place culture at the heart of local communities. Village squares will be transformed into vibrant hubs featuring live performances, local film screenings and interactive activities designed for all ages.

The programme will be led by artistic director Daniel Cauchi, working closely with each locality to develop unique events inspired by their history and identity. This ensures that every participating town and village offers a distinct cultural experience.

Minister Bonnici emphasised the importance of investing in community-based cultural initiatives, noting that they help preserve traditions while encouraging creativity and social interaction. Zerafa Civelli added that the programme will complement existing cultural activities, making the arts more accessible and enriching Malta’s cultural calendar throughout the year.

The initiative will run between May and November, with events taking place in localities including Ħal Kirkop, Swieqi, Ħal Safi, Ħal Lija, Dingli, Xagħra, Sliema, Ħal Għaxaq, Pembroke, Siġġiewi, Imqabba, Żurrieq, Paola, Valletta and Bormla.
